Best Baby Gifts
When both of my boys were born, I received so many gifts. I got many of the things I really needed such as clothes, diapers, receiving blankets, and a baby monitor. But those were no surprise to me. I was delighted to receive them as they were very much needed for the arrival of my baby, but they weren’t overly exciting.
My favorite gift was a diaper cake that I got for my shower.
I remember collecting all of the gifts from my baby shower and loading them into the car. Once I was home I enjoyed going through all of them again and reading the cards. I also received gifts after the baby was born from family and friends that lived out of state there were a few items that will forever stick out in my mind as the best baby gifts I ever received.
By far the best baby gifts are those that are homemade and come from the heart. When my mother in law knit a few baby blankets for us, I was truly touched. I knew it took time for her to make them and they came out beautiful. These are the type of gifts that become part of a family’s history. I will save my boys’ blankets until they have their own children. I have such a fond memory of my own grandparents and still have many of the gifts they gave to me. I’m so glad my boys will have that same experience.
I find that personalized gifts are one of the most precious too. You know that a person who gives this type of gift has really put a lot of thought into it. They didn’t just pick something on a gift registry or buy a gift card. They took the time out to find something special for you and your new baby.
As soon as we knew we were having a boy, my husband and I chose his name. We immediately told everyone we knew what his name was going to be. We received a few gifts that had his name on it. It was so touching. Anything with a name hand painted or monogrammed is such a wonderful idea. You know it’s a gift that will be cherished or even something the family might use as a keepsake.
Gift baskets are another great baby gift to get. Most gift baskets come with a theme like “bath time” or “sports” You can get baskets with girl or boy themes. They seem to stand out amongst the other gifts too because they’re always different and unique and the packaging is always eye catching and looks perfect. If you don’t want to buy one from a store, you can go to a craft store and purchase a basket and cellophane to make your own.
One overlooked baby gift item is baby books. Books to me are so invaluable. When you’re pregnant, you mostly have time to read up about the pregnancy and what happens during labor and birth. Once your baby is born you have so many other concerns. It’s great to have a few books on hand to help with baby’s first year. Books about development and milestones by age or what to do when baby are sick, make for great reference.
With so many baby gifts on the market, put some time and thought into the next gift you buy for a new baby. Keep in mind that some of the best gifts out there can be either practical (like books) or ones that are unique and come from the heart.
