How To Save Money On Baby Stuff

Baby gear, toys and clothes can cost a lot of money. In the first year alone you will probably spend a few thousand dollars. If you have more than one child, the cost can seem overwhelming. There are many ways you save money when purchasing these items.

Wait for sales. Stores are always having sales or competing with other stores on pricing. Some stores will even price match. After holiday or end of season sales are a great time to purchase things. You might even decide to buy your children’s winter coats for the next season. You may wind up saving between 50 and 75 percent. Also look for coupons in your local circulars.

Consignment stores or secondhand shops make for excellent savings on baby items. You can find great deals on gently used baby clothes, toys, and baby furniture. You don’t need to buy these items new. Used clothes and toys can be washed to look brand new. A good example of an item to look for at a consignment store are outdoor baby toys like slides and play houses. Brand new, a playhouse can cost anywhere from $150 to $500. At a consignment store you may be able to find one for under $100.

Shopping online is yet another way to find baby items for less. Ebay is an excellent example. Ebay is great place to find just about anything you need for baby. It’s also a great place to search for specialty or hard to find baby items. There are also tons of stores that have online shopping.

Clothing stores like Old Navy and The Gap only charge $5 for shipping and other online stores like Zappos.com have free shipping and free returns. Look for stores like that so you don’t waist money on shipping. Buying online is great because many times your order will only take a few days to ship out to you and you can avoid the hassle of crowded malls.

Another great tip is to sign up for coupons and mailings. You can do that online or by regular mail. When you first become pregnant you can sign up with companies like Pampers, Similac and Enfamil. Once you provide them with your baby’s due date they’ll send you free samples and coupons throughout your baby’s first year.

With a little know-how you too can save money on baby items.
