How To Get Out Of Your Rut
I feel blessed being a mother of two beautiful boys. I enjoy them both. However, there are some days I feel like I’m in a rut and that I have no identity or time to myself. Keeping us all on a routine and maintaining the household is not always an easy task. Some days I just feel frazzled and I need to take a break. Every parent experiences this at some point or another. It’s important to recognize that feeling and find some way to relax, have fun and do something for yourself. Here are a few suggestions:
Go see a movie- A movie is a great way to relax and be entertained. Most of us spend so much time watching children’s shows with our kids. When’s the last time you’ve seen a great movie while it’s still in the movie theater? Call a friend and head to the movies.
Read a book- There’s no better way of relaxing and unwinding then losing yourself in a great book. Go to your local library and borrow one or treat yourself to a new book at a bookstore.
Go on a date- Can you remember the last date you had a date with your husband or partner? If not, then you need to get a babysitter and go out for a few hours. I think taking time out with your husband or partner is one of the most important things you can do to keep the spark of your relationship going. It’s very easy to get so involved with our kids that we forget about our husband. Even if you can only manage to go out once a month, make it a special time.
Get a spa treatment- If you are able to afford it, getting a spa treatment can be the ultimate relaxation. There are so many things you can choose from too. You can try things like massages, facials or body wraps. If you don’t want to spend too much money, you can get either a manicure or pedicure. Both of those are fairly inexpensive and yet relaxing.
Join a club or group- There are many different organizations and clubs you can join. There are book clubs, mothers groups, sports groups and many others you can find that will enable you to meet other people and enjoy yourself.
Take a class- Taking a class is another way to help you meet new people and learn to socialize beyond your children. You can take an art or craft class or try a college course. You can also try taking a dance or exercise class.
Volunteer-If you’d like to do something to help others but you can only give a few hours a week, try volunteering. Places like the Red Cross are always looking for more volunteers.
