Homemade Baby Food

Feeding your baby foods that are delicious as well as nutritious for them can be challenging. While many baby food manufacturers offer this, it can be expensive. Making your own baby food can be a great way to save money. This is also a great process for parents of babies with allergic reactions to some ingredients in store bought baby foods.

Homemade baby food is not difficult to make or time consuming. Many parents choose to make large batches of it every couple of weeks or every weekend depending on their schedule. Parents can rest easy feeding their baby homemade baby food. It is free from additives that many store bought baby foods contain.

There are many ingredients that you already use at home that go into making quality homemade baby food. This includes meats, fruits, and vegetables. You can find great homemade baby food recipe books at book stores and baby stores. You can also find such books on the internet. Many baby oriented websites offer homemade baby food recipes for free.

You will want to make the homemade baby food in a way that allows you to retain the most vitamins and nutrients in the ingredients. Steaming fruits and vegetables is the best way to do this. The level of puree you want to add to your ingredients depends on your child’s eating abilities. The younger a child is, the more liquid you want to make the foods. As your child gets older and has an easier time swallowing, you can make the foods more solid in texture.

To ensure your child has a wonderful experience with the homemade baby foods, only introduce one new food every four days. This way, if an allergy develops you will be able to pinpoint the possible ingredients that caused it. Always prepare the baby food in a clean and sterile environment. Investing in a quality food processor is well worth the expense. A basic blender can also do the trick for you as well. Properly storing the baby food so that is does not spoil is very important.

If you are planning to use the food within a few days, it is fine to leave it in the refrigerator. However, any homemade baby food stored here should be thrown out if not used within three days. If you store the foods in a large container, do not feed your baby from it as this can spread bacteria from their saliva. Instead, pour small portions into a serving dish.

To store a large batch of baby food, freeze it until you are ready to use it. A great container for the homemade baby food is ice cube trays. Simply fill each one up with the pureed food as you would with water. Cover the entire ice cube tray with plastic wrap. After the cubes are frozen, transfer them into freezer bags. Each cube of food is approximately one ounce. Put a full serving of food for your baby into each freezer bag. You can heat the cubes in the microwave prior to using.

Offering your baby quality foods that taste good and are very nutritious is a desire of most parents. Making your own baby food will give you the satisfaction of knowing you are offering your child the healthiest ingredients available in their foods. Homemade baby food is very simple to make as well as very inexpensive.
