Organic Baby Foods

The term organic was not always a household word. With more and more research being released into the media about the harmful effects of chemicals, the term organic is now a regular part of our language. Organic means food grown without chemicals and processed without additives. Its amazing how far are along the organic market has come.

It wasn’t more than say 5 years ago that you could only find a small organic food section for adults in any grocery store. Some stores didn’t even have a section. When I was a child my parents probably didn’t have to worry much about organic baby food. I bet they relied more on making and giving us homemade food. Although there were still environmental and health concerns, the way food is prepared and processed has changed a lot in the last 30 years. In my opinion it’s gotten worse.

Many animals are raised on factory farms where they are injected with antibiotics and hormones. There are also tons of chemicals, food coloring, preservatives and many other unnecessary things in our food today. High fructose corn syrup and other sugars is now the main ingredient in a lot of foods today. There is plenty of evidence showing the correlation between the chemicals in our foods and health problems including obesity, asthma, cancer and birth defects.

Bovine hormone growth has been proven to pass through a nursing mom’s breast milk. To me, this is extremely alarming. With all of the information out there, it’s easy to see that the best way to protect your baby from these chemicals is to use organic food. You can buy fresh fruits and vegetables that are organic and make your own food. Or, you can purchase already made organic baby food jars in stores. True organic foods will be certified and post that information on their label. Organic certification proves to the consumer that the company adheres to the strict guidelines and regulations in the farming and production of their food.

Because of the high demand for organic food you now have choices when picking baby food. Earths best is a popular brand of organic baby food to use. But well known brands of baby foods like Gerber are now offering organic baby foods too. Not only can you buy baby food jars but some companies also sell organic cereals and snacks. Similac is even making organic formula. With all of the information out there and so much of the organic foods easily accessible, I find that organic food is the way to go. Why not start your baby on the healthiest road possible.
