Common Pregnancy Complaints
Some women breeze through their pregnancy with very little complaints while the rest of us experience a few of the common pregnancy related complaints. The following is a list of the more common complaints.
Morning sickness-Many women experience a little morning sickness. Most times it only lasts though the first trimester. There are some women that get morning sickness so severe and/or lasting through the entire pregnancy. There are medications your doctor can prescribe to lessen the severity of the morning sickness and alleviate some of the nausea.
Constipation is a problem many women have throughout their pregnancy. Eating a diet rich in fiber and drinking plenty of water will help. Check with your doctor about safe laxatives or stool softeners to use during pregnancy.
Hemorrhoids are also a common complaint of pregnant women. It is the result of constipation. Avoid sitting or standing for long periods of time.
Dizziness and faintness are problems that can be quite scary to have. Feeling dizzy is usually related to changing your position too quickly while feeling faint can be a sign of low blood sugar. Make sure you eat small frequent meals and go slow if you are changing positions from lying down to standing. If you feel dizzy or faint, lie down and either put your feet up or lie down on your left side until it passes.
Swelling can be a minor problem due to eating foods with too much salt or it can be sign of something more serious like preeclampsia. Limit the amount of salty foods in your diet. If you notice swelling in your hands or face, call your doctor right away.
Indigestion and heartburn are common. To avoid these problems, eat small frequent meals and eliminate spicy, fried or acidy foods from your diet.
Back aches are very common especially as you head into the third trimester when your belly is much larger. Make sure you are sleeping on a firm mattress. Rest your feet on top of a pillow. Never lift anything heavy.
Sciatica-This is another complaint many women have. If you’ve ever experienced it before you know that it’s very painful. The pain can radiate from your hip area all the way down your leg. You can get some relief by placing a pillow in between your legs while you’re lying down on your left side. This will take the pressure off of your sciatic nerve.
Acne-Some women get acne really bad during pregnancy while others have beautiful radiant skin. Getting acne during your pregnancy is due to the change in hormones.
Insomnia-This usually occurs at the end of the pregnancy. Some women just get it for no reason while others have trouble sleeping because they can’t find a comfortable position to sleep in. You can try taking a warm bath to help relax, if your doctor allows it. To catch up on sleep, try napping in the daytime.
