Signs Of Miscarriage
Some pregnant woman experience symptoms when they are miscarrying while others will not. Not all of these symptoms are a definite sign of a miscarriage. If you experience any of these signs or symptoms when you are pregnant, call your doctor right away.
Bleeding can be a sign of miscarriage. Bleeding that is brown in color is usually considered old blood and may be implantation bleeding. Some women bleed in the beginning of their pregnancy at the time when their period would normally be expected. If you notice blood that is bright red in color or contains any clotting, you should call your doctor immediately. This may be a sign of impending miscarriage. However many woman have experienced bright red bleeding during their pregnancy never miscarry. If you bleed a little close to the second trimester it could be a sign of a low lying placenta.
Cramping during pregnancy is normal when the ligaments are stretching out and making room for baby. However any cramping should be reported to your doctor as sometimes this is a sign of a miscarriage happening.
Passing tissue is a sign of miscarriage. Your doctor will probably not test this tissue if this is your first miscarriage. If it isn’t your first, you can collect the tissue sample in a sealable plastic bag and have your doctor test it. This can sometimes help to determine why the loss occurred.
Unfortunately if you experience any of these signs of miscarriage, there is nothing your doctor can do to prevent it from happening. Once you make an appointment to see the doctor, they will probably do a blood test to determine your levels of pregnancy hormones. If they see the number is too low or is not doubling as it should, they will determine you are miscarrying. Sometimes they will perform an ultrasound to further assess the situation.
Once it’s determined that a miscarriage is in progress depending on how far along you are they will either let it continue on its own or schedule you for a D & C. Most physicians recommend waiting at least two full cycles before trying again. Coping with a loss can be difficult. Give yourself time to heal physically and emotionally.
