Baby Shower Gift Ideas
Are you going to get the new mommy the exact same baby shower gift as everyone else? Chances are, if you shop at a "regular" retail baby store, you're going to end up picking out the same thing as someone else.
It happens all the time, and when it does, it's not only embarrassing for you as the gift giver, but it's just as frustrating for the recipient. Think about it, how many Winnie The Pooh Onesie's does the new mommy really need?
That's why you need to come up with a unique baby shower gift idea. Something that is guaranteed that nobody else is going to give. Stuck for ideas? No problem...I'm going to give you a bunch of great baby shower gift ideas in a minute :)
The first thing you need to take into account is the new mommy's preferences. If she is registered somewhere for baby gifts, take a quick scan of the items she registered for. Look for themes and product ideas.
Did she register for a bunch of green and yellow gifts? Are there picture frames and photo albums on her wish list? Make a mental note of the types of items she would like to receive.
Now, rather than buying items off the registry like most people, you can take what you've learned from her wish list and search for a unique gift along the same lines.
The problem with baby gift registries is many times people just buy the items without telling the cashier the item is from a gift registry. This means when another baby shower guest goes to the store and pulls up the registry, they don't know the item was already purchased.
That's why I prefer to use the registry as a guide, but then find my own unique baby gift that is similar to what is on the registry.
Let's say the new mom would like to get a baseball themed crib sheet set. Chances are, someone is going to buy the crib set since it's on the registry and makes a nice gift. If you see that the item is already purchased, then that's even better. Why? Because it means you can get a complimentary item that matches and it will be a complete surprise!
It's very easy to find related products, especially online. All you have to do is do a quick search in your favorite search engine for the product on the registry. When you find a picture of it, keep that window open and open a new browser window. That way you can easily compare the gift registry item with the related items you are going to give as your gift.
My favorite place to find baby shower gift ideas is Ebay. It's one of my favorites because there is literally everything ever created being sold on ebay, and in 99% of the cases, it's about half as expensive as the same items found in a store.
