What To Have In Your Medicine Cabinet/Bathroom For Baby

Keeping your medicine cabinet stocked for when your baby or toddler is sick or hurt is very important. You want to make sure you have everything ahead of time in case you need to act quickly. Running out to the store in the middle of the night can be prevented by making sure you have the following items in your medicine cabinet or bathroom.

  • Digital Thermometer and Vaseline for taking temperatures
  • Alcohol wipes for disinfecting the thermometer
  • Advil & Tylenol-Sometimes you need to alternate both of these in order to break a fever. They make infant and child drops so make sure you buy the right one.
  • Benedryl- This is important to keep in the house in case of an allergic reaction to something.
  • Medicine Dropper- I find it easier to use than the cup or dropper that comes with some of the medicines.
  • Tweezer-Very important to have on hand if you need to pull a tick out of the skin
  • Scissors or Nail clippers
  • Vick’s Vapor Rub- This is a great thing to have if your child has a bad cough. It will help to open the mucous membranes and soothe the chest.
  • Vaporizer- This is needed to post moisture back into the air and help make your child’s breathing much easier.
  • Pedialyte is one of the most important things to keep in your house. When babies or toddlers get sick, it’s so important to make sure they don’t get dehydrated. If they do then you will have no choice but to take them to the ER. Pedialyte replaces any fluids lost in the body therefore preventing dehydration. I always keep a pack of Pedialyte in my pantry in case we need it. If you have a child that is refusing to eat or drink you can try giving them Pedialyte pops. It does the same thing as the liquid but kids seem to enjoy it more because they look like regular ice pops.
  • Bulb syringe for cleaning out your child’s nasal passages
  • Antibacterial ointment or wipes
  • Burn cream in the event your child gets a burn. This is one of the things many parents forget to keep in their medicine cabinet.
  • Hydrogen Peroxide for cleaning out cuts
  • Various sized band-aids, gauze and adhesive tape
  • Sunscreen
  • Mosquito Repellant-make sure it is safe to use on young babies.
  • Ice packs-You can keep them in your freezer or you can buy those disposable ice packs.
